In the 21st century, many long-established organizations, from symphonies to ballet companies and theatres, face the perennial challenges of bringing an audience in through the doors to see and take in the offerings. Especially so in the traditional art forms that have been around for decades and different eras and times. The current Symphony President and CEO, Scott Showalter, has vigorously embraced the challenge to serve the entire community of Portland and SW Washington by throwing out a diverse net of programs that range from the traditional and time-honored,  to the very modern and unexpected.

It seems the programs offered for the upcoming 2016-2017 season have never been more diverse. Ranging from the much beloved programs that feature favorites like Rachmaninoff’s powerful Piano Concert No. 3, to a showing of Raiders of the Lost Ark featuring a live score, to a tribute to the music of David Bowie!
